2026-09-26 2026-09-26 Wearing Your Indigo Art

Join us for Wearing Your Indigo Art, an artisan-level, two-day studio workshop led by renowned indigo artist, textile designer, and educator Arianne King Comer. Designed for participants seeking an immersive, hands-on experience, this workshop explores the artistry of indigo dyeing through wax resist and paste resist techniques while guiding guests in the creation of unique wearable pieces.

Arianne King Comer is a multimedia textile artist known for her indigo and batik work, with more than 25 years of experience in the textile field. Her practice is deeply connected to indigo, batik, cultural tradition, and personal heritage. She developed her passion for indigo while studying under renowned batik artist Nike Davies-Okundaye in Nigeria, and she continues to teach indigo and batik workshops in South Carolina and around the world. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and is included in several permanent collections.

Across two days, participants will learn about indigo’s history and context, explore different vat types, and receive guided demonstrations in wax resist, paste resist, dyeing, and cleaning fabric after the wax process. Starter fabrics will be used for initial exercises, allowing participants to build confidence with the techniques before moving into open studio time.

Day one will focus on demonstration, technique, and creative exploration, including resist methods, vat dyeing, and hands-on experimentation. Day two will be dedicated to open studio work, giving participants time to apply what they have learned to clothing or fabric pieces they bring from home.

This intimate studio experience is ideal for artists, makers, textile enthusiasts, and creative learners interested in transforming fabric into wearable indigo art through the guidance of a master dyer.
