New Taco Restaurant in Charleston Combining Cuisine with Pop Culture

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Talk about prime real estate for a new restaurant.

RuRu’s Tacos + Tequila has moved in to the corner of East Bay Street and Queen Street.

This new taco joint started in Charlotte. Leaders are hoping to tap into both tourists and locals here in the Holy City.

The new location is decorated with some local flair by Charleston artist Michelle Seay.

Most menu items are named after movie quotes. Culinary Director Joaquin Bustos says the original concept for the restaurant came from a movie producer and if you’re a movie buff in your 30's or 40's, you may be able to reference every item on the menu. You can start with a heaping portion of guacamole, referred to as ‘Ma, the Meatloaf’. There are tacos with catchy names like ‘I’ll Have What She’s Having’ and “Why So Serious?’

And don’t forget about the tequila! The house margarita is called ‘Frank the Tank’ because it’s stored in a giant margarita tank.

RuRu’s offers a daily lunch and dinner service along with a weekend brunch offering. Individual tacos are priced around $4.
