Goose Creek
Goose Creek is a city in Berkeley County bordered to the east by the Cooper River and the Back River, to the southeast by an outer portion of the city of Charleston, to the southwest by Hanahan, farther to the west by the city of North Charleston in Charleston County and to the west by the unincorporated community of Ladson. Although the city became incorporated a little more than a half century ago, its history dates back to early colonists known as the ‘Goose Creek Men.’ Most of the Naval Weapons Station Charleston, now part of Joint Base Charleston, is located in Goose Creek. Its population is currently approximately 36,000.
The city has worked hard, according to its official website, to achieve “a balance between growth, the environment and the preservation of the small town character. Residents live, work, and raise their families surrounded by the rich historic and natural treasures of the Lowcountry.”
