Charleston Christmas Special Celebrating 30th Year
Annual Holiday Show Continues At Music Hall Thanks To Brad & Jennifer Moranz
Jeff Walker, Entertainment Writer
Similar to the age old Christmas song 'Go Tell It On the Mountain', you've heard me proclaim the following since 1995. If you want to get into the true spirit of the holiday season, it's best started with enjoying a presentation of the annual Charleston Christmas Special presented by the first family of low country entertainment, Brad and Jennifer Moranz.
Without fail, the husband and wife team have been offering up the well received run of shows each and every December at the Charleston Music Hall. And 2025 celebrates their 30th year of Brad and Jennifer presenting this remarkable holiday present to greater Charleston.
According to Brad, the reason he and Jenny continue to present the holiday show to audiences year after year is rather simple and humbling. "We absolutely love Christmas. And we are so grateful we get to keep doing it."
Although team Moranz relocated to Charleston in the early 1990's from North Carolina, becoming the faces of the Charleston Christmas Special, the duo soon found themselves without any backers, as two formidable entertainment companies decided to opt out presenting and managing shows at the Charleston Music Hall.
Thankfully however, Brad and Jennifer found a new home in the low country of South Carolina. He admits both knew early on, the holy city is where they were meant to be. "We love Charleston, and didn’t want to leave this beautiful city." Adding, "We simply didn’t want this to end! We were having too much fun."
So together they made an executive decision to produce the shows themselves. However, staying in Charleston and taking on full management came with concerns the couple had never experienced before. "It was challenging, since we had always simply been performers. So learning the business side of all this was a true learning curve. But we were determined."
Without question the main reason they stayed in Charleston is also the most rewarding. "Fortunately, there were a lot of folks who wanted us to keep going. Their support made and continues to make this possible."
Brad says, there's never been any talk about moving the Christmas show to another venue, especially since the Music Hall was designed around the show. "It was always at the Music Hall. The Music Hall was actually built in 1995 specifically for our show. So the show fits in it like a glove. Not a bad seat in the house. Everything about that venue is perfect for our show."
After three decades it's hard to imagine anyone who hasn't seen or at least heard of the Charleston Christmas Special. For those few who haven't Brad offers up. "I would say if you really want to feel the Christmas spirit, come see the show!" He even offers his complete assurance. "In fact, if you don’t love it(or least like it a lot!), I will personally give you your money back. Jenny and I feel that certain about the joy on that stage and how it will lift your spirits!
Brad and Jennifer Moranz don't take their admiration for Charleston, their love of Christmas, and their appreciation for doing what they do for granted. "The main thing we always feel is grateful." And to be able to do it for the past three decades is their own holiday present. "To be allowed to do what you love for 30 years is the BEST Christmas gift we have ever received!"
