Following in the footsteps of his first two in the series '9:11 A Time To Always Remember', author and Cincinnati native Jim Serger offers up a third book subtitled 'Salute To Service', a collection of poignant stories from men and women who served in the military during the horrific attacks on September 11th 2001, or were moved to enlist after seeing it all unfold.
Covering some 200 plus pages including stories and compelling pictures, 'Salute To Service' pays tribute to every branch of our armed forces, with Serger gathering long and short stories from 62 brave souls that continue to be impacted by the events of 911. More than a retrospect, 'Salute To Service' reflects the patriotism of those who wear the uniform and their dedication to protecting the United States.
Aside from the cover and a few color photos of the American flag, the entire book is presented in black and white imagery, perhaps symbolizing the darkest period in American history, or the ashes from the destruction left behind that lead to our nation rising from the ashes.
'Salute To Service' opens with an inspirational foreword by fellow Cincinnati native Brad Wenstrup, a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, as well as a former six term Ohio congressman (2013-25). Also a licensed doctor of podiatric medicine, Wenstrup served an extended tour in Irag from 2005-06 as a combat surgeon, adding in his foreword he was honored to serve alongside the best and the finest our country had to offer. Wenstrup's motivational words set the tone for the ensuing 61 accounts.
Journeyman writer Jim Serger has penned several books. It's become his passion. However, none are more timely and encouraging as his '9:11 A Time To Always Remember' series. His first dealt with how everyday people are affected by seeing the image of 9:11 on a scoreboard or digital clock, triggering flashbacks to September 11th. Serger's second release 'Bond of Firefighters' chronicles their heroic stories and the camaraderie they share, no matter where they serve.
'Salute To Service' is an awesome follow up to Serger's first two books. As Wenstrup reminds us in his opening, despite moving further away from September 11th, 2001, we must never forget that day in American history or the men and women who sacrificed their lives trying to rescue others. Nor should we forget police, fire, rescue, and military personnel who continue to serve and protect our country at home and abroad.
If you're a first responder, serve or have served in our armed forces, or appreciate patriotism at the highest level than '9:11 A Time To Always Remember : 'Salute To Service' is a must read. Furthermore I encourage teachers and historians to read Serger's latest rendition. It will warm your soul and make you believe in the American spirit. Want more reason to purchase the book. As Serger has done from day one, proceeds from the book benefit the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Frank Siller in memory of his late brother Stephen, a firefighter who died during 911. Tunnel 2 Towers continues to champion causes for our fallen soldiers and first responders, with 93 percent of all funds going directly to families and homeless veterans.
