5 Things to Do In Charleston When It's Cold Outside
With miles of serene beaches and gently flowing tidal creeks, Charleston is a beautiful place to explore outdoors all year long. However, if the southern chill becomes a bit too much, there are a lot of great indoor options as well. And not all of them are museums and historic homes -- though we highly recommend those too! Here is a list of some of our favorite ways to stay inside when the weather drops below 60 degrees.
The Break Room: Work up a sweat in Charleston’s first and only rage room, a place designed specifically for destruction. They’ll outfit you in coveralls, gloves, and head/eye protection before sending you in with a smashing instrument of your choosing. Work out your frustrations on office equipment, glass bottles, or pieces of furniture in a safe environment -- alone or with friends! Bluetooth speakers are also provided in each room, so have your “Break Stuff” playlist in mind when you get there.
Verdant EcoSpa: When you’ve finished demolishing that computer at The Break Room, cool down at Verdant EcoSpa & Organic Oasis. They have everything from facials and skincare treatments to full-body massage and energy healing. Their oncology-friendly and pregnancy-friendly approach means that even those with vulnerable immune systems can benefit from their treatments. So why not treat yourself?
Charleston Jazz: Now that you’ve cleaned up a bit, enjoy a performance by Charleston’s finest jazz musicians. The Charleston Jazz Orchestra is an example of the Lowcountry’s rich jazz history and a key element in the ever-evolving music scene here in Charleston. Each year, the Charleston Jazz Festival celebrates the genre by bringing in critically-acclaimed artists from all over the world for three days of entertaining performances in a wide variety of styles. Frothy Beard: After the performance, grab a pint and a slice at Frothy Beard Brewing Company and Zombie Bob’s Pizza. Their craft beer is some of the best in the city, and the low-key atmosphere is perfect for the whole family. Come out for events like open-mic night, trivia night, bingo night, and even yoga while drinking some of “the most adventurous beers in the Lowcountry.”
DECO Nightclub: Keep the party going at Charleston’s premiere nightclub. Surrounded by art deco furnishings, you’ll feel like Jay Gatsby himself with a huge dance floor, an impressive wraparound bar, and VIP table service. During the week, DECO is the perfect place for private parties, bachelor/bachelorettes, or corporate events. On the weekends -- and that includes Thursday nights -- it’s the perfect place to celebrate whatever you want.
Rain or shine, hot or cold, it doesn’t matter; when you’re in Charleston, it’s always the perfect time of year. So come on out and enjoy these indoor activities while you’re here!
