The Latest Heroic Feat for MUSC is EPIC

At its core, the Epic Center represents Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) North Star, always putting their patients first, with easier access to state of the art care.

West Ashley revitalization is happening. A key goal for the city of Charleston is to help the Citadel Mall. Establishing the new MUSC Epic Center at the Mall, is a major factor in creating a new life and purpose for the Citadel Mall area in West Ashley. MUSC stepped in, worked hard, and presented a life changing and lifesaving gift to West Ashley.

MUSC is the oldest medical school in the South, as well as the state’s only integrated, academic health sciences center, with a unique charge to serve the state through education, research and patient care. In 2019, for the fifth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report named MUSC Health the No. 1 hospital in South Carolina.

Primary Care has opened a brand new clinic at the MUSC Health West Ashley Medical Pavilion. This convenient setting within the Epic Center, again formerly the Citadel Mall, houses specialty care clinics, as well as Primary Care. On-site lab and pharmacy services are available for patients’ use. Ample and free parking is readily available. Providers are accepting new patients at MUSC Health Primary Care – Epic Center to guide you through your wellness journey. The MUSC Health West Ashley Medical Pavilion offers routine wellness and preventive care services and chronic disease management.

Health Care doesn’t have to be complicated, but let’s face it, it can be tricky. When you don’t feel well, you need help. Do you need a primary care doctor, or a specialist? Do you need a referral, a prescription, authorization, or second opinion? Is the care conveniently located and easily accessible? On a daily basis, MUSC takes all these factors into account.

Today, you can make your initial appointment online or on the phone, drive to the West Ashley Medical Pavilion, park with ease, walk in, head to an information booth, and they’ll take it from there. Have a quick look for yourself. Click here to visit your gateway to health care at the new Medical Pavilion:

As you make your appointment, you can find a provider, or launch MyChart.

By clicking onto MyChart you will also see all the additional online services provided: refill prescriptions, visit test results, manage appointments, communicate with your doctor, and schedule a virtual appointment.

Many insurance companies cover the $25 cost of the virtual appointment, but if yours does not, it’s only $25 for the convenience of talking to a healthcare professional, and getting your needs cared for without a visit to the doctor.

MUSC Health Virtual Care is an easy way to be treated online for common conditions. No appointment. No waiting rooms. It is accessible 24/7. You wake up one morning with an eye infection. You know what it is, but you need to be seen by a doctor, and prescribed medication. With Virtual Care your needs can be met in as little as 15 minutes.

Virtual Care is a game changer for parents. Taking a sick child to a doctor can be daunting and often times, that’s what it takes to get the child well. How about those times when, as a parent, you know what your child needs, be it a confirmation from a professional, or a prescription. MUSC has simplified the system, and has made your life that much easier.

Peter Zwerner, M.D., chief medical officer of MUSC Physicians, said that the MUSC Health West Ashley Medical Pavilion offers a wide range of services. “Over 18 different medical specialties will be seeing patients at this location. We’re also offering comprehensive imaging and laboratory services.”

The Medical Pavilion has 96 exam rooms, an ambulatory surgery center, with two operating rooms, and two procedure rooms. There is a full diagnostic imaging center, which includes radiology, cat scanning, and MRI. A pharmacy, laboratory services, physical and occupational therapy are also onsite. The state of the art technology needed to provide first class care is all there for the patients and their families.

A health care system with more than 130 placements/locations, MUSC offers a chance to give back to the community through a vibrant volunteer program. Since 1971, MUSC has sponsored this program. Sponsors range in age from 14-years-olds, to senior citizens, cancer survivors, retirees and other participants in the community. Volunteers undergo training and can be found in more than 113 areas of the hospital and university. In 2019, MUSC volunteers contributed more than 89,000 hours at MUSC Health.
