NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals and AHL's Hershey Bears, have announced that forward Cam Morrison has been named the Stingrays captain.

Morrison, who has posted three goals and an assist through four games with the Stingrays, was loaned to South Carolina from Hershey on September 28 after signing with the Bears this summer. raysmorrison

A native of Aurora, Ontario, Morrison skated for the Stavanger Oilers of the EHL in Norway last season following five seasons between the American Hockey League and ECHL. Morrison played in 35 games for the Kansas City Mavericks during the 2024-25 season logging 27 points (13g, 14a) following two seasons split between the Charlotte Checkers and Florida Everblades.

"We have a lot of leaders in the room, but I think [Morrison] was certainly one of the standout guys," said Stingrays Head Coach Jesse Kallechy. "He was the guy that all his teammates felt like he was the unquestioned leader and standard setter for our team. He made it a pretty easy choice. It's a huge honor to wear the "C" for the Stingrays and I know it's something that he will embrace and his teammates will follow."

Drafted in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, Morrison broke into professional hockey with the Rockford IceHogs following a four year career at the University of Notre Dame. In his ECHL career, Morrison has 50 points (26g, 24a) in 63 games while adding 41 points (18g, 23a) in 123 games in the AHL.

"It's a huge honor, it's something I take a lot of pride in," said Morrison. "We've got a great group of guys, top down throughout the organization. It's exciting, I think we have a good squad this year so hopefully we can make a good run and I'm just honored to be named the captain."

The Stingrays have also announced their alternate captains. When South Carolina wears their white sweaters, forwards Ryan Sandelin and Josh Wilkins will don the "A". Forward Zack Andrusiak and defenseman Luke Prokop will serve as alternate captains when South Carolina wears their navy sweaters, and when the Stingrays sport their red jerseys, forward Jalen Luypen and defensemen Connor Moore will be alternate captains.
