'Dad, Love Me' An Emotional Letter Written To An Ailing Father

NYT Best Selling Author Matthew Quick Offers Up A Personal Message As He Gives Love One Final Shot

Jeff Walker,  Entertainment Writer

18 years after New York Times bestselling author Matthew Quick exposed his early life in 'The Silver Linings Playbook', he returns with his latest book peeling back the father-son relationship even deeper. Set for release in July, Quick's memoir 'Dad, Love Me: a memoir' recounts a more personal journey for the writer, as he tries to connect with a father suffering with a debilitating disease. dadloveme1 2

14 years since his debut novel which became a blockbusting motion picture, Quick's new offering is layered with family drama, recapping his less than emotional bond with his father during his lifetime, and Quick's attempt over the past several years to bridge the gap while his father has any memories left to recall.

Presented in the form of a missive to an ailing parent, Quick doesn't hold back, providing he had his own demons to overcome, and would not have emerged victorious without the support of his wife, his mother, and his siblings, as well as perhaps divine intervention. Furthermore he credits Zeus (not his real name), his analyst who helped Quick achieve lasting wholeness using Jungian analysis.

Covering 290 pages 'Dad, Love Me' reveals the highs and lows of coming to terms with a less than affectionate father, and the courage it takes to not only to forgive, but to extend an olive branch to a parent who's not altogether there. Although finding literary success Quick fell victim to alcoholism and despair. Ironically, despite pen and paper being among his closest allies, he admits to bouts of writer's block.

Painstakingly raw and honest, 'Dad, Love Me' provides hope to parents including grandparents who haven't developed loving connections with their kids and grandkids, with hopes of forging relationships before it's too late.
