Heroism & Friendships Abound in 'Unbroken Bonds of Battle'

Patriotic Book From Fox News' Joey Jones Recalls Brotherhood Among Wounded Warriors

Jeff Walker, Book Review

There is an unwritten code, a shared alliance of brotherhood that exists among many in the United States military, especially among those armed forces personnel who serve and or have served on the front lines. In his first ever book 'Unbroken Bonds of Battle', Fox News contributor and military analyst Johnny Joey Jones offers up a heart-wrenching and inspiring collection of stories from servicemen (officers & enlisted) who have forged relationships beyond the battlefield, providing hope and restoration for some who may have become lost souls without the additional support. aaaaaaaajoeyjones1

Despite losing both of his legs below the knees, Jones a Marine Corps veteran has dedicated his life to encouraging and mentoring fellow veterans, with his Fox News exposure providing a more welcoming platform. While the bulk of Jones' book chronicles 10 uplifting stories from fellow comrades, many suffering from PTSD, loss of limbs, or worse loss of friend or family member, Jones does add personal commentary regarding his interaction with each profiled in 'Unbroken Bonds of Battle'.

It is hard for those who have not served, have no connection to the armed forces, or worse a disdain for our military to fully understand the lifelong friendships forged between those who put their lives on the line to defend freedom and patriotism. In 'Unbroken Bonds of Battle' Jones recounts his own life changing experience in Afghanistan as well as capturing raw and unfiltered stories from military men injured while serving as EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) technicians followed by the unending support they receive upon returning home.

Without question disarming an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) ranks among the most dangerous duties in the military, allowing for dire consequences and long lasting conditions. Jones' book provides insight from those brave souls affected by their call to duty, offering readers a behind the scenes look at what it takes to be a modern day hero.

Although the physical and mental damage occurred when soldiers get injured is immediate, they sometimes carry the scars and emotional wounds home making it hard to acclimate to familiar surroundings and even family members, often leading to unnecessary suicides. In 'Unbroken Bonds of Battle' Jones hopes to not only educate returning wounded veterans, but to let them know they have a network of brothers (many they may not know personally) willing to step up and help them heal, overcome depression and oppression.

While nine of the stories are written from a male perspective, Stacy Greer's is perhaps the most poignant and moving. Her husband Daniel served alongside Jones when both of their lives were changed in a instant. While Stacy got to say goodbye to her husband in a hospital room in Germany, little did she realize when she lost the love of her life she would be inheriting a family she didn't expect.

As it has been for decades, often when a soldier loses his life on the battlefield, his comrades and military organizations will rally around a Gold Star family member to offer support, as Stacy has discovered on numerous occasions, spending birthdays, holidays, and vacations with military families she didn't know until tragedy came knocking. As Stacy puts it 'In a way, I've landed in some kind of safety net', and help is just a phone call away.

'Unbroken Bonds of Battle' is ripe with stories of heroism, patriotism, lifelong friendships, and finding God in the trenches. Although the stories are sad and deal with different aspects of loss, they all share outcomes fueled with hope. Military service is not for everyone but for those who serve, it offers a fraternity beyond the battlefield and standard enlistment. aaaaaaaajoeyjones4

Johnny Joey Jones' book will move readers and for some bring a tear to their eyes. I encourage military servicemen and their families to read 'Unbroken Bonds of Battle'. The book makes a great gift for veterans, first responders, and frankly for those who have no idea the heroism and sacrifices service personnel and their families face everyday. Jones' book reminds us how much we owe to those who defend our nation and our allies.
