Charleston County Parks is partnering with Parrot Surf & Skate to introduce a new skateboarding contest for all experience levels SK8 Charleston. The first Parrot’s Holy City Skate Jam will be held Saturday, Sept. 26 starting at 10 a.m.

The contest will offer awards in 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place for girls, beginner, intermediate, advanced and OG jams in both the park’s street course and bowls. There will also be individual awards for Best Trick in the Street Course and Best Trick in the Bowl. Separate awards will also be offered in the OG’s division (ages 40+). Cash prizes will be awarded to winners in the OG and advanced jams, with winnings ranging from $50 to $500.

Entry fees will be $25 per contestant and spectators are free. To register, visit https://liveheats.com/events/527949. Those wishing to skate on Sept. 26 but not compete in the jam will just pay the $3 regular daily admission fee to SK8 Charleston.

Parrot’s Holy City Skate Jam will also feature live music and food vendors on site.

If the event is cancelled due to rain, Parrot’s Holy City Skate Jam will be rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3.

Owned and operated by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, SK8 Charleston is a regional-sized concrete skate park that spans over 32,000 square feet. The park, which opened in 2017, is located on the neck area of the Charleston peninsula at 1549 Oceanic Street. SK8 Charleston features an intermediate bowl, a pro bowl, a 200-foot-long snake run, and a 300-foot-long street course. The site features a small skate shop, restrooms, concessions and seating areas. SK8 Charleston is open each Wednesday through Monday for skateboarding, and on Tuesdays for BMX bikers. Accessible parking, restrooms and an accessible route to viewing locations are available at the park. SK8 Charleston also offers Beginner and Intermediate skateboarding lessons.
