Blu Oyster Sushi & Seafood Review from Your Local Chiropractor

If you're a sushi fan like me, you understand the joy of discovering a new spot that not only tastes fresh and delicious but also offers a range of health benefits. I have recently had the pleasure of dining at Blu Oyster Sushi & Seafood in Charleston, South Carolina, and I couldn't wait to share my experience with you. 

 

The Ambiance

Walking into Blu Oyster, I was immediately struck by the inviting ambiance. The modern décor and lighting, and subtle oceanic theme set the perfect backdrop for a delightful culinary experience. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, eager to guide me through their extensive menu.

 

The Sushi

One of the standout features of this restaurant is their commitment to quality. Unlike some other sushi spots in Charleston, they never freeze their fish, ensuring that every piece of sushi is as fresh and nutrient dense as possible.

 

Dr. Mal’s Favorites

  • Inordinate Roll

This roll is made with spicy tuna, and avocado, wrapped in soy paper, topped with tuna, tempura flakes, masago, scallion, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. The deep red slices of tuna were incredibly tender and flavorful. Tuna is a superstar, boasting high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for brain health and cardiovascular function. It's also low in calories but high in protein, making it a great choice for those looking to maintain a healthy weight. Plus, tuna is rich in selenium, a mineral that plays a role in boosting the immune system. If you’re a tuna sushi fan like me, be sure to try the Scallywag Roll as well. This one comes with a mini tempura fried scallops on each piece. Amazing. 

  • Tiger Lily Roll

The Tiger Lily is made with spicy salmon, and cucumber, wrapped in soy paper, topped with salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, and fermented chili sauce. The vibrant orange hue of the salmon hinted at its freshness, and each bite melted in my mouth. Beyond its exquisite taste, salmon is a powerhouse of health benefits. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, it supports heart health, reduces inflammation, and is an excellent source of high-quality protein. Additionally, salmon is packed with vitamins B12 and D, essential for maintaining energy levels and bone health.

  • Chirashi Bowl

The Chirashi Bowl made for the most perfect lunch. Blu Oyster’s comes over a bed of rice with local snapper sashimi along with salmon and tuna sashimi. The local snapper in this dish has a mild flavor and slightly firm texture which were perfectly balanced, offering a refreshing contrast to the richer salmon and tuna. Snapper is a lean source of protein and provides a good amount of potassium, which is important for maintaining healthy blood pressure levels. It's also a source of essential vitamins such as B6 and B12, which are vital for energy production and cognitive function.

 

The Verdict

 

As a holistic, neurological-based chiropractor, I always seek out foods that not only taste great but also contribute to overall wellness. Blu Oyster Sushi & Seafood has quickly become one of my favorite spots in all of Charleston. The quality of the fish, the skillful preparation, and the inviting atmosphere make it a must-visit. Plus, knowing that each bite is packed with nutritional benefits makes the experience even more enjoyable.
