Jeff Walker, Entertainment Writer / Restaurant Review
Featured recently (December 2025) in Whiskey Advocate, Bourbon N' Bubbles (B&B) located at 570 King Street. is known for their curated selection of fine bourbons, champagne, and signature cocktails paired with their upscale menu. And while the bulk of their business happens during the evening hours, the pride of Republic Hospitality Group shines between 10am and 3pm, when B&B serves up Sunday brunch.
Although a select few downtown restaurants provide weekend brunch, very few have the atmosphere and ambiance B&B present, and even fewer are offering brunch menus on upper King St. If you're looking for a brunch place that has something for everyone, including a decent mix of savory and sweet dishes, everyday items, as well as southern favorites, alongside a smidgen of upper crust delicacies, than B&B is the ideal choice.
Depending on your appetite, B&B carry main entrees, small plates, soups, salads, and desserts that compliment their signature cocktails. Trust me, even if you have a discerning palate, you won't be disappointed. For those who don't like to step too far out of their comfort zone B&B offer up three more common breakfast options.
The Eggs Your Way is an ideal gluten-free choice, aka a hearty hungry-man entree complete with two eggs made your way, seasoned breakfast potatoes, and perfectly cooked bacon. I can't undersell the bacon. There's that fine line when you're preparing thick bacon that is either to flimsy and greasy or too burnt and hard to chew. The chefs at B&B prepare the bacon just so! And oh the flavor. Ooh la-la!
The Breakfast Biscuit or their Biscuits & Gravy, a buttermilk biscuit, blanketed under pepper gravy before being topped with sunny side up eggs are two more straight ahead can't go wrong selections under their main menu. Enjoy!
Ladies might opt for the Chicken n' Waffles. My wife did, and she was pleasantly surprised. Tender white meat chicken in a buttermilk coating layered atop oversized pearl sugar waffles (a rich, brioche-dough-based waffle with a caramelized texture) drenched in warm house-made syrup. A nice choice if you prefer a mix of savory and sweet on your plate. Light eaters could easily share this entree. Ideal when paired with the caffienated Pick Me Up cocktail, (vodka, kahlua, chilled espresso, cream, & simple syrup). Simply divine!
If you're leaning more towards the lunch side of brunch than I recommend their Shrimp & Grits platter. When you're in downtown Charleston, dine like the locals do. A half dozen jumbo shrimp spread over a melange of stone ground grits and sharp cheddar cheese, in a velvety andouille (sausage) gravy. Gives it kind of a spicy kick. As appetizing as it is eye appealing.
Vegans, don't fret. B&B has you covered when it comes to a hearty main dish. Their Rice Bowl is not only colorful but comes with a blend of crispy arborio (premium Italian short-grain white rice) roasted veggies, chorizo, brunch sauce, sunny side up egg. Read further. They have soyrizo to supplement the chorizo, leave butter/brunch sauce out during the cooking process, and can 86 the egg. Additionally, most dishes are able to be gluten free by request with a few exceptions.
Bourbon N' Bubbles small plates are a cross between exceptional sides and extravagant starters. Want to go simple but southern than order a dish of their four cheese Macaroni & Cheese, baby pasta shells surrounded in medley of prosciutto (cured Italian ham), and chives (onion-like herb), to enrich the overall flavor. Superb! Their white stone ground Cheese Grits infused with cheddar provide an ample palate pleasing meal that can be a light meal or the awesome first bite. Two words come to mind 'airy & delicious! Great value at just $7.
B&B have three affordably separate menu items laced with caviar, including their Caviar Grilled Cheese and a sumptuous Caviar Deviled Eggs appetizer engrained in mustard, crispy prosciutto, and pink salt (a rock salt mined from Pakistan's Punjab region, renowned for its distinctive hue). Absolute flawless presentation.
Heart healthy types might go for their Cobb or Caesar Salads, while the adventurous green leaf lovers might choose the Shredded Kale mix, complete with candied walnuts, goat cheese, truffle aioli, and heirloom tomato pickled onions. An ideal blend of tangy, sweet, crunchy, and creamy. Totally awesome!
Forgoing the savory, and just dropping in to satisfy your sugary craving. No problem. B&B have four menu items that will tickle the sweet taste buds, including two that eat like light breakfast pastries.
The Shortcake is not only a decadent delight, it's also vegan friendly. An oversized light & fluffy buttermilk biscuit basking in marinated berries and vanilla chantilly (lightly sweetened whipped cream flavored with vanilla). B&B's French Toast carries a similar make-up, with French baguettes under vanilla chantilly and a warm glaze of a berry compote.
Four signature cocktails are listed on the brunch menu including a fully Loaded Bloody Mary that comes complete with Charleston's own bloody mary mix, poached shrimp, bacon, blue cheese olives, and pickled okra in a well of vodka. Of course, let's not forget their name. Bourbon N' Bubbles have an extensive list of bourbons and whiskeys from A to Z, or in this case from A to W, better known as Angels Envy to Woodford Reserve Rye.
Some 100 plus high end and everyday brands for bourbon connoisseurs, with another 20 premium bubbly fruit of the vines from Italy, France, and Napa Valley, as well as Dom Perignon Champagne (2009). Coming in a little later on Sunday, B&B offer 1/2 off house bubbly and 25% off apps 4pm to close (1am).
If you're not a morning person and prefer to dine much later in the day, Bourbon N' Bubbles offer up an eclectic dinner menu, several items from their brunch including salads, shrimp & grits, and seasoned Crispy Brussels, as well as all of their appetizers, adding a Blue Crab Fondue and Flatbread to the starters list.
While they certainly shine for midday Sunday brunch, B&B stand out during the evening, with their main dishes among the most diverse on downtown Charleston menus. Entrees include a 6oz Scotthish Glazed Salmon, Ricotta Gnocchi, a 10oz boneless Perfect Pork Chop, and a Filet Mignon served with a cauliflower puree and crack potatoes, as well as Chicken Lollipops in a lemon brine. Got to see it to believe it!
Handhelds include a Waygu Burger served on challah (yeast-leavened egg bread), and a Crispy Chicken sandwich slathered in tomato jam. Aside from a few caviar laced dishes and their shrimp & grits entree, almost everything on the brunch menu is priced under $20, with a few less than $15. Cocktails all under $20. Given their downtown location and their upscale approach, they are easily affordable.
Kudos to Executive Chef Mike Watson and Gabor Lendvai, who is B&B's Chef de Cuisine (French for chief of the kitchen). Watson is a classically trained Johnson & Wales graduate, with Lendvai earning his cuisine cred at Husk, Salthouse Catering, and Nick's German Kitchen before joining the Republic Hospitality family. Together they deliver an upscale southern influenced menu.
Let's not overlook the front of house. Double kudos to General Manager Abigail Kopka, Assistant GM Peter Young and their staff for running a high quality operation, where exceptional customer service and attention to detail remains the primary focus. Thumbs up to everyone from the hostess stand, servers, and skilled mixologists.
Bourbon N' Bubbles think outside the box everyday of the week. While they host happy hour weekdays from 4-6pm, offering reduced prices on choice beers, wine, bubbly, and select cocktails, they often pair them with reduced bar bites. B&B jumpstart the work week with Martini Monday 7pm-Close ($10 martini menu).
Hump day provides fruit of the vine lovers Wine Down Wednesday 7pm til close (1/2 off glasses of wine with 25% off apps). Lovers of bubbly and whiskey take note. B&B host Flight Night Thursdays offering up $25 champagne flights and $40 bourbon flight frrom 7pm until closing. So many reasons to drop in Bourbon N' Bubbles.
The restaurant has a total capacity of up to 150–200 guests for events, with specialized seating for smaller groups or up to 70–120 for structured seated, private, or full-venue dining occasions, with the front lounge holding roughly 80 seats. When the weather permits patrons can dine at several sidewalk bistro type tables.
Bourbon N' Bubbles bill themselves as the ideal oasis for hosting your holiday and bachelorette parties, company socials, or your next team building event.
