Biscuit Bros 'Love You Like Biscuits & Gravy'
Popular Breakfast & Lunch Eatery Now Has Two Locations In Greater Charleston
Jeff Walker, Entertainment Writer / Food & Beverage Review
When you're starting up a new business, aside from having the appropriate funding, the most important thing you need is 'passion'. Growing up in a large and loving family the most important meal of the day for Danny Romero was breakfast. While his parents were successful and provided Danny and his seven siblings (8 kids total) a comfortable lifestyle, his mom always emphasized beginning the day with a hearty breakfast, with her home-made biscuits almost always on the morning menu.
Several decades later Danny, a committed foodie who admits he loved hanging out in the kitchen decided it was time to rekindle his passion for biscuits, throwing open the doors to 'Biscuit Bros' in the Orange Grove community of West Ashley in 2023. The success of that location prompted Danny to open a second Biscuit Bros recently at 8465 Dorchester Rd. near the intersection of Ashley Phosphate.
Under a welcoming 'love you like biscuits and gravy' banner, Biscuit Bros is among the fastest growing food & beverage formats, whereas they serve up breakfast and lunch menus pretty much from 7am until 2pm daily. Although they provide muffins, pastries, breakfast burritos and pancake platters, their main offerings include 20 signature freshly made breakfast biscuits. And these aren't your run of the mill rinky-dink biscuits. They are super-sized, pretty much requiring two hands to hold.
Biscuit Bros have designed a biscuit menu that caters to a wide variety of tastes, including a local favorite called the 'Lowcountry' layered with a plump piece of fried chicken and pickle, slathered in pimento cheese. The 'Hillbilly Philly' is a nod to the Philadelphia, with a southern twist. Your over-sized biscuit comes draped in grilled steak and melted cheese, topped with potato & fried egg to allow for a little breakfast panache.
Just two of the 20 signature biscuit choices that include a straight up sausage, bacon, egg & cheese creation dubbed the 'Mr. T' (I pity the fool who doesn't order this ample biscuit). The 'Cowboy', complete with country ham, egg, hash brown & cheese is equally satisfying. Feeling less ravenous, maybe opt for the 'Plain Jane', simply a big old buttered biscuit served with local honey. Ooh la la!
Not in the mood for a biscuit, no worries you can still enjoy a platter meal or one of seven breakfast burritos. Want to jump start the taste buds? I recommend the Chorizo (spicy sausage) wrapped with home fries, cheese and red sauce.
Platters include one with three oversized pancakes. For the hungry-man or hungry-woman maybe the Hungryneck platter will suffice, teeming with two eggs to order, choice of sausage or bacon, home fries, and a biscuit with a side of sausage gravy. A stick to your ribs early morning meal.
Although they prefer to make lunch items available after 11am, I've heard they sometimes break their own rules. So if you crave an 8-inch Steak & Cheese sandwich served on an authentic Amoroso rolls (Philly favorite) at 10:30am, they'll no doubt place the order.
One of the more popular lunch items happens to be their signature quarter pound Smash Burger served on a biscuit with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and a slather or mustard. Of course you can substitute a sesame seed bun as the base. Maybe opt for a Fried Chicken w/ /Fries or Tater Tots.
A half dozen lunch options easily available as combos for an additional $2.99. But keep in mind, they serve breakfast all day long. So really, the menu at Biscuit Bros offers dozens of choices for hungry appetites.
Pepsi lovers will revel in cola heaven knowing they offer Pepsi products. Here's something you don't see often. All their fountain drinks are just $1.99. Very reasonable for a fast food eatery. You can get a brisk cup of coffee for the same price, with North Charleston offering lattes and caffeinated nitro cold brews. While cups of regular joe are refillable, it's one and done on the nitro brews.
Coming full circle, Biscuit Bros is a mostly breakfast and sometime lunch eatery that serves up a variety of hearty comfort foods. From a slathered Butter Rum Muffin to a Gooey Cinnamon Roll, or from a dozen biscuit choices and burritos to a Hot Ham Bacon sandwich, there is something for everyone on the menu.
As their website declares 'Biscuit Bros is the result of a whole lot of love, cookin’ and eatin’. It's best to come with a healthy appetite because at Biscuit Bros you never leave hungry. As I mentioned above, these aren't your grandmother's biscuits. Although they taste like they come from her loving kitchen, they are the mac-daddy of biscuits, i.e. they are mega-sized!
Biscuit Bros has two locations to serve you, including 1124 Sam Rittenberg at Orange Grove Road, and 8465 Dorchester Road just up from Ashley Phosphate. Yes you can order online. Serving up scratch made biscuits from their family to yours at https://biscuitbros.com/
