The Dolly Llama Putting Their Own Spin on Ice Cream & Waffles

Mount Pleasant Shop Offering Up Something New When It Comes To Our Favorite Cold Sweet Treat

Jeff Walker,  Restaurant Review

Much like their website proclaims, The Dolly Llama Waffle Master is not your typical dessert shop. Now heading into its seventh year The Dolly Llama is an unusual ice cream franchise serving up a quality cold concoctions inside and their unique brand of waffles. Simply stated The Dolly Llama thinks and operates outside the cone (pun intended) of imagination. aaaaaaaadollyllamalogoblk

With one of their newest location in Mount Pleasant SC, The Dolly Llama began its journey in 2017 when founders Eric Shomof and Samuel Baroux, an acclaimed European entrepreneur happened across a llama living in the south of France. Taken by what they presume is the most socially friendly animal, the two businessmen who wanted to bring their ice cream passion to the United States decided the llama would be their mascot for the new business model.

Setting up camp in southern California, The Dolly Llama quickly became the talk of LA, with their signature bubble waffles (a spherical egg-based waffle popular in Hong Kong) becoming all the rage. Combining the bubble with OG liege Waffles (similar to Belgian) and a variety of Dolly Llama Shakes provide patrons a different take from the everyday ice cream treats.

Thankfully in late 2023 The Dolly Llama made its debut in greater Charleston, more precisely in Mount Pleasant at the Walmart anchored Wando Crossing Shopping Center. Their physical address if you're using GPS is 1483 Hwy 17N Suite I Mount Pleasant, and you're going to have to seek them out because they are tucked in the far corner adjacent to the Cell Phone Repair Store.

But once you discover this rare ice cream parlor it'll be on your sweet treat radar moving forward, mainly due to its unconventionality. Owned and operated by Candace and Michael McNerny The Dolly Llama not only serve up cold concoctions that will tantalize the taste buds, but are extraordinarily eye appealing.

With more than a dozen ice cream flavors including a few vegan options, and nearly twice as many toppings The Dolly Llama offer a plethora of build your own cold concoctions, wrapped or topped in Bubble or OG Liege Waffles.

However, you can opt for any of their signature creations including the Party Animal, simply salted caramel ice cream, topped with kinder chocolate bar, circus animal cookies chocolate sauce blanketed in a soft and sweet bubble waffle. Dolly's Dream is a bubble waffle topped with Ultimate Cookie Monster ice cream, fresh strawberries, brownies and Nutella sauce (hazelnut & cocoa). It's blue and kids will love it! aaaaaaaadollyllama3

Their four signature offerings including the Llama Gone Nuts, vanilla ice cream, fresh bananas, and almonds with a drizzle of peanut butter sauce come in either bubble or OG Liege. You can have the Dolly Llama in true blue milkshake form, as well as four other XL signature milkshakes.

Caffeine shake lovers may lean toward the Coffee Snob, coffee ice cream blended with whole milk, speculoos sauce (Belgian cinnamon), speculoos cookie crumbs, rainbow sprinkles and whipped cream. If you you're looking for something with a little panache to it than the Cinnalover fits the bill. Horchata ice cream (Mexican toasted rice & cinnamon), whole milk, speculoos, caramel sauce, cinnamon toast crunch and whipped cream.

You can get all of the above in regular and kids sizes. You can come in for just waffles drizzled in your favorite sauces with a variety of toppings. The 6 or 12 piece Mini OG Box comes complete with Mini-OG Liege waffles sprinkled in powdered sugar, adorned to your specifications. aaaaaaaadollyllama2

Top your waffles with a variety of fruits, candies, or kid favorite cereals (Cap'n Crunch, Fruit Loops, Cinnamon Toast Crunch). Coat them with dark chocolate sauce, caramel, Nutella, maple syrup, or white chocolate matcha (decadent white chocolate, butter, & cream dusted with Japanese green tea powder). Don't knock it until you try it!

Do they cater? The Dolly Llama magic eight ball says 'yes'! Do they host parties. That answer is also a resounding yes, but given the size of their location, you'd most likely have to reserve the entire shop for a specified amount of time. And of course you can order online for pickup or have your sweet treat delivered thru several delivery services.

You can enjoy your ice cream by the scoop or in a cup. Beginning Wednesdays 2-6pm they will be offering a BOGO on their $5 cup. While they provide signature creations regularly, on occasion throughout the year The Dolly Llama offer up ice cream treats that reflect the season or a special holiday, like Valentine's Day, Independence Day, or Christmas.

Here's a kicker, if you're craving a good cup of coffee, The Dolly Llama is the only store in Wando Crossing to find a liquid caffeine.

'Ice cream, ice cream. We all scream for ice cream'! Let's face it, no matter what time of year it is kids from six to 96 love ice cream. If you're sensing a pattern here, you are correct. The Dolly Llama has separated itself from the run of the mill ice cream shops. As their website suggests, they attract customers from all walks of life. At The Dolly Llama they encourage patrons to live like their motto and  'Shake What Your Llama Gave Ya!'

Situated nicely at 1483 Hwy 17N Suite I Mount Pleasant in the Wando Crossing Shopping Center, The Dolly Llama is currently open 2-9pm weekdays and noon until 9pm on the weekend.
