There's a beach 45 minutes from downtown Charleston where you can ride a bike along the sand and watch dolphins hunt in the surf, and somehow it never seems to make the tourist lists. That beach is Kiawah Island, a barrier island just southwest of the city, and three days out there is exactly enough time to understand why people come back to it year after year.
