Whether you are a native, a transplant or a visitor to the Holy City, the fact that Charleston is known for its shrimp and grits is basic information. Yet, those foodies who are in the know realize that often the only two ingredients prevalent in every restaurant's offerings are SHRIMP and GRITS. After that, local chefs often let their imagination run wild.

Every Friday this August, the Town of Mount Pleasant will present the Waterfront Music & Movies series at Waterfront Park. The fun starts at 6:30 pm.

Each event is free to attend and includes live music and an outdoor movie with the Ravenel Bridge and Charleston Harbor as the perfect backdrops. Multiple food trucks and vendors will be onsite during each event.

For my second diary post on the Heyward-Washington House, we'll be investigating 87 Church Street's connection to President George Washington and the building's history to present.

During President Washington's Southern Tour in 1791, the City of Charleston leased 87 Church for the President and his retinue (which was far less than the number required to travel with presidents now) for one week. That single week seared Washington's stamp on both Charleston and 87 Church Street.

This is not the first time that I have brought my attention to the culinary Mecca that Charleston has become. As we all know, many of America's finest chefs now call the Lowcountry home. Attention is often drawn to the magic they weave into their dinner creations, yet little focus is placed on the many diverse sandwiches that make Charleston proud. Some fancy; some not. All are fabulous!

We understand the grumbles that come from paying more for day-to-day necessities and the parts of “adulting” that make us all want to roll our eyes.
