In conjunction with the Southeastern regional premiere of his play This Random World, playwright Steven Dietz will join PURE Theatre for a special post-show talkback and reception following the Saturday, March 10, 2018 performance. “We are honored to welcome Steven to the Lowcountry and to be able to share our interpretation of This Random World with him,” says Sharon Graci, PURE Theatre’s Artistic Director. “When I first read his play, it resonated so strongly with me that I felt compelled to share it with Charleston. This play focuses on the beautiful inevitability of encounter, so to have Steven joining us for a performance only deepens the insightful themes of the play.”

It's that time of year, folks. The mornings are brighter, and the evenings darker. But don't let those early evenings get you down! Now's a great time to take advantage of the lower angle of sunlight and play around with silhouettes.

To get the best result with this technique, go out on a clear day at a time when the sun is not directly above you.

Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant, located in the Village Pointe Shopping Center in Mount Pleasant, will be featuring five award-winning local artists as a part of its Give with Gwynn’s holiday charitable campaign. These artists will display their works in Gwynn’s store windows from November 26, 2017 – January 6, 2018. All works will reflect and inspire Peace on Earth.

A fun thing for photography enthusiasts to try is long exposure photography, which is a cool technique that allows you to capture contrast in motion. For instance, if you’re shooting the pier at Folly Beach with this technique, the waves will appear milky and smooth, which looks really cool against the static pier. Most people just think of the contrast between colors or between light and shadow when creating a composition, but the contrast between something in motion and something still can also be really beautiful.

Sometimes, I get on Pinterests kicks. I think that I can save the blank walls of my apartment with crafty DIY’s that involve exotic materials such as le Mod Podge, la popsicle-stick, essence de wasabi tape. And more times than not, I end up with a giant ball of glue stuck to my coffee table.

That was when I decided to start looking into other options to decorate my walls.

As I perused the interwebs, I found an online art gallery called the Charleston Artist Collective.

Even though the Angel Oak is magnificent no matter how you shoot it, trying different angles will help us see it in a much more interesting way than the thousands of other eye-level, straight-on photos of the same subject. So get out there and try something different.
